A big thank you to everyone who supported me in the ranking ballot for the London Conservative List.
Once we have successfully cleared Ken Livingstone out of City Hall and elected Boris Johnson as Mayor, supported by a strong Conservative Group on the Assembly, I and the other people our list will be working hard to ensure we maximise the Conservative share of the vote at the election in June 2009. I look forward to meeting as many of you as possible as that campaign unfolds.
I will represent Londoners in Europe not Europe to Londoners I want to speak out in Europe for all of the communities that make London such a vibrant place to live and work. I will campaign for a referendum on the Lisbon treaty The Labour Government has broken its promise to Londoners. The Lisbon treaty is the EU Constitution in all but name.
I will fight to roll-back the tide of European rules and regulations London is a unique place to live and work. I want the EU to provide a fair market for our goods and services. I do not want a "closer, deeper union" which interferes in people's lives and stifles competition.
I will oppose any move towards the UK joining the Euro The City of London is the premier banking, finance and insurance centre in Europe, if not the world and I will fight to ensure it remains so. Britain's best interests are served by our retaining control of the management of our economy.
I will promote a new, reforming agenda for the EU I want a leaner, more effective and outward looking EU which is focusing on the challenges of globalisation, the environment and global poverty. These are the issues which will most affect Londoners quality of life in the years ahead not more micromanagement and interference. The EU should be putting its energies into those issues where sovereign member states working in co-operation can make a real difference.
